Winter is settling in Perth, and June brings some pretty unique experiences for everyone, whether you’re a local or just visiting. 

Sure, June to August is technically the low season, but trust me, it’s an awesome time to check out Perth. There are fewer people around and cooler (for Perth!) weather, which means you can take your time discovering all the amazing spots in Western Australia’s capital city. Personally, I love the cosy weather and the smell of wood fires burning in people’s homes during the winter months.

Read on for everything you need to know about Perth’s weather in June, exciting events taking place during the month, and a list of must-see attractions and activities to fill your itinerary. So, grab a warm jacket and get ready to uncover the charm and beauty of Perth in June!

Perth Weather In June

June is the first month of winter in Perth, so the days are shorter, cooler and rainy. Don’t let that deter your Perth trip though, you can still have plenty of unique experiences in Perth in June. Read on for all everything you need to know about Perth’s weather in June. 

Average Temperature In Perth In June

In June, Perth embraces the cooler winter temperatures, which are actually quite mild compared to other parts of the world. On average, daytime temperatures hover around 18-20°C (64 – 68 degrees F), while nighttime temperatures typically drop to a cooler 8-10°C (46 – 50 degrees F). 

Average Rainfall In Perth During June

June is one of the wetter months of the year for Perth. On average, the city receives about 130-140mm (5.1-5.5 inches) of rainfall spread across roughly 14-16 rainy days. 

While you might encounter some showers or the occasional storm throughout the month, don’t let that dampen your spirits – there will still be plenty of sunny breaks to enjoy the city’s beautiful outdoor attractions.

What time is sunrise and sunset in Perth in June?

The days are a bit shorter in June, but there’s still ample daylight to enjoy outdoor activities. 

Sunrise usually occurs around 7:10-7:20 am, giving you a gentle start to the day. As for sunset, you can expect the sun to start dipping below the horizon around 5:20-5:30 pm. These earlier sunsets create a cozy atmosphere perfect for winding down with a warm drink or enjoying a spectacular sunset over the Indian Ocean at Cottesloe Beach.

UV Levels in Perth in June

The UV levels during June are usually lower than in the summer months, making it a more comfortable time to explore the outdoors without worrying too much about sunburn. 

However, even with the cooler temperatures and shorter days, it’s important not to underestimate the power of the Australian sun! The UV index can still reach moderate levels, typically ranging between 2 and 4. It’s always a good idea to apply sunscreen, wear sunglasses, and cover up with protective clothing when spending time outside, even on those chillier winter days. 

Is Perth Cloudy in June?

In June, skies can be a mix of both cloudy and clear. While there is a higher chance of overcast conditions due to the rainfall, there are still plenty of sunny intervals to enjoy. 

The city’s pleasant climate allows for comfortable exploration and outdoor activities, even on cloudier days. So, don’t be discouraged if you encounter a few clouds during your visit.

Is Perth Windy in June?

Visitors in June will experience a mix of windy and calm days, but it’s generally not considered a particularly windy month. 

While the wind can occasionally pick up during storms or along the coastline, it usually doesn’t reach extreme levels that would hinder your outdoor activities. 

How Humid is Perth in June?

With humidity levels in June usually ranging between 40% and 60%, you can expect a pleasant environment for exploring and sightseeing. 

Does it snow in Perth in June?

While June marks the beginning of winter in Perth, snowfall in the city has never been recorded. Very light snowfalls have been recorded in the outer suburbs of the Perth Hills, but not since the late 60s. 

If you’re seeking a snowy adventure in Western Australia, your best bet would be to head further south to the Stirling Ranges, where light snowfall can sometimes be seen on the highest peaks during the coldest months. However, for most visitors to Perth in June, snow won’t be a part of the experience.

WA Day Festival

4th to 5th June – Burswood Park

WA Day festival is held on Sunday the 4th and Monday the 5th of June 2023 in Burswood Park. WA Day festival traditionally features carnival games, street performers, entertainment and even a drone light show.

Kings Park Lightscape

16th June to 30th July – Kings Park

Kings Park Lightscape is on from the 16th of June to the 30th of July 2023. Lightscape is a critically acclaimed international show of light, sound and colour that sells out around the globe! Kings Park will be absolutely illuminated this winter and it’s not to be missed. 

Manjimup Truffle and Wine Festival

23rd to 25th June

For people open to travelling outside of Perth, the Manjimup Truffle and Wine Festival is back for 2023! There’s plenty on offer this year, including truffle and wine tastings, gourmet degustations, entertainment, truffle and farm tours, truffle hunts and wine masterclasses. 

In the past, the festival has drawn thousands of visitors to sold-out events so it’s not to be missed. 

Michael Buble

5th June – RAC Arena

Michael Buble will perform songs from his 11th album, Higher, as well as his favourite originals and his takes on the classics.

Henry Rollins

5th June – Perth Concert Hall

Spend A Day At Perth Zoo

Perth Zoo is a fantastic day out for animal lovers and families alike. With a diverse collection of over 1200 animals from all over the world, Perth Zoo is the perfect place to get up close and personal with exotic species as well as some native Australian favourites – think emus koalas, kangaroos and echidnas.  

Perth Zoo is also dedicated to conservation efforts and provides plenty of educational opportunities focused on understanding and protecting biodiversity. 

Some of my personal favourite exhibitions are the playful orangutangs, majestic giraffes and adorable otters – don’t miss them!

Visit Rottnest Island

A visit to Rottnest Island is an absolute must for anyone visiting Perth. Located just a short ferry trip from Perth, Rottnest offers a stunning retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. 

Rottnest is home to pristine beaches, bright crystal-clear water and heaps of native wildlife including the famous quokkas who call the area home. 

There’s something for everyone to do on Rottnest Island – swimming, cycling, snorkelling, kayaking or just relaxing on the sand. Just be sure to get a selfie with the resident quokkas. They’re nocturnal cuties, but you can often spot them resting under the trees and shrubs in the early morning or late afternoon. Explore the city by eBike

What better way to explore the city than to cruise around the streets on an electric bike! As a more eco-friendly option for exploring the city, hiring an electric bike will allow you to cover more ground than on foot and you’ll be able to take in Perth’s scenery and check out some lesser-known sights.

See A Live AFL Game

If you’re visiting Perth in June you won’t want to miss a chance to check out an AFL game at Optus Stadium! Western Australians are passionate about AFL and checking out a game will let you soak up that WA culture and atmosphere! 

The Perth teams – West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers both have home games in June and you’ll find the passion and energy from the crowd absolutely infectious. Even if you’re not familiar with the sport you’re sure to have a memorable experience.

Visit The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles are a unique natural wonder located around 2 hours outside of Perth within Nambung National Park. It’s an otherworldly landscape of towering limestone pillars that rise from the desert sands. Visitors can hike the park or take a scenic drive through the landscape. June is a great time to visit the Pinnacles as the colder weather makes the desert more comfortable.

Go On A Kings Park Picnic 

As one of the world’s largest and prettiest inner-city parks, Kings Park and Botanic Garden is an iconic destination not to be missed. It offers a unique combination of cultural experiences, natural beauty and sweeping views of the city skyline. 

Visitors can explore the 3000+ species of native flora, walk among the treetops on the Lotterywest Federation Walkway, pay respects at the war memorials and finish the day with a sunset picnic looking over the city skyline. 

For the best picnic views, I recommend finding a spot on the sloping hills near the State War Memorial, so you can watch the city light up and the river shimmer as the sunset casts spectacular colours in the clouds. This is an activity I absolutely always do with my friends who visit from out of state.

While you’re in the area, why not explore the park on wheels? As one of the largest inner-city parks in the world spanning 400 hectares, Kings Park has a lot of ground to cover! Wander around Elizabeth Quay

Elizabeth Quay is a stunning waterfront precinct conveniently located in the heart of Perth, on the banks of the Swan River. 

Visitors can take a leisurely stroll around the quay, soaking in the breathtaking views of the city skyline and the tranquil waters of the river. 

There are also plenty of public art installations dotted throughout the area, including the iconic Spanda sculpture that’s practically begging for a selfie. 

There are plenty of great restaurants and bars in the area, like Milky Lane 9amazing burgers!), the Island Brewhouse, Oyster Bar and The Reveley, making Elizabeth Quay the perfect spot to refuel and relax after a day of exploring Perth.

Spend a morning at Fremantle Markets

Having been a fixture of Fremantle for over a century, Fremantle markets are not to be missed! Here you’ll find plenty of local and handmade products – the perfect souvenir for your Western Australian trip. 

Fremantle Markets is also a foodie’s dream! There’s plenty of delicious local and international cuisine to be tried and tasted as you sit and listen to the live entertainment on offer. There’s something for everyone at Fremantle Markets. 

Fremantle Markets is open Friday to Sunday 9 am – 6 pm.

Fremantle Prison

While you’re in Fremantle, be sure to check out Fremantle Prison for a glimpse into Australia’s colonial history and the harsh early days of Western Australia. 

The prison was built in the 1850s by convicts and was in operation for over 136 years until it was decommissioned in 1991, so there’s plenty of history and interesting stories to be heard on your trip. Adventurous guests can even take the eerie Torchlight Tour, experiencing the prison’s ghastliest stories. 

Fremantle Prison is open 9 am – 5 pm 7 days a week (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day). There are extended opening hours on Wednesday and Friday for the Torchlight Tours. 

WA Shipwrecks Museum

Another Freo favourite is the WA Shipwrecks Museum, which showcases relics from shipwrecks that have occurred along Western Australia’s treacherous coastline. It features interactive exhibits that bring the shipwrecks to life and is family-friendly. 

The museum is housed int in a stunning heritage-listed building that was once the commissariat store for the Fremantle convict establishment so the site is steeped in history. 

The WA Shipwrecks Museum is open 9:30 am – 5 pm daily. 

Try iFLY Indoor Skydiving

If you’re looking for an activity to keep the kids (and big kids!) entertained on those chilly and rainy June days, look no further than iFLY Indoor Skydiving. 

At iFLY people of all ages can experience the thrill of skydiving in a controlled vertical wind tunnel environment. It’s a fun experience and can be enjoyed regardless of the weather. 

iFLY is open daily, including public holidays. 

Explore AQWA

Escape the cold June weather at AQWA – The Aquarium of Western Australia. As it’s an indoor aquarium, visitors will get to enjoy the marine life and exhibits in a comfortable and warm environment. 

There’s plenty to see at AQWA – sharks, stingrays, turtles and more. Be sure to check out the mesmerising jellyfish display – it’s my personal favourite!

During a visit to AQWA, visitors will also learn the importance of marine conservation and how Western Australia’s marine ecosystem is being protected. Plus, it’s family-friendly – the kiddos will love the interactive experiences and the chance to see the amazing marine life.

Bells Rapids Hike

June is a great time to get out into nature in Perth and a Bells Rapids hike will not disappoint. Visitors can walk the 5.5km circuit to discover the flowing rapids and sweeping views from the lookout point all while spotting the resident kangaroos, lizards and MANY species of birds. 

June is a great time to explore the area as the rapids are flowing due to the increased rain. The hike can also be more comfortable in June when days are cooler. 

Finish your afternoon out at Bells Rapids with a picnic next to the Avon River (if weather permits!).

What To Wear In Perth In June

June is the first month of Winter in Perth so it’s important to keep the cooler weather in mind when packing for your trip to Peth. 

Although it’s winter, on clear, sunny days it can be quite warm with cool nights dressing in layers that can be easily removed is best. 

To be most comfortable in the wet and cooler weather, consider packing:

• Long pants such as trousers or jeans
• Light jumper/sweater
• Light coat
• Windbreaker
