As someone who lives in Perth and knows the city inside and out, I can tell you exactly what to expect this time of year. Whether you’re wondering about the weather, the best events, or what to do while you’re here, I’ve got you covered.

March marks the beginning of autumn in Perth, but the weather still feels like summer for most of the month. Days are warm and sunny, with only a slight drop in temperature compared to February. While there’s a chance of occasional rain, Perth remains mostly dry, making it a great time to enjoy the outdoors. Here’s everything you need to know about the weather in Perth in March.

Average Temperature in Perth in March

The average temperature in Perth during the month of March is around 23-30°C (73-86°F). This makes it a warm and pleasant time to visit, with plenty of sunshine and clear skies. While most days are comfortable, temperatures can sometimes reach up to 39°C (102°F), so staying hydrated and finding shade during the hottest parts of the day is important.

The average rainfall in Perth during March is approximately 20 mm (0.8 inches), typically occurring over about 2 rainy days. This represents a slight increase compared to the summer months, but overall, March remains mostly dry. Visitors can expect predominantly sunny days, with only occasional light showers.

In March, the days are gradually getting shorter, with around 12 hours of daylight each day. Sunrise and sunset times in Perth vary slightly throughout the month. On average, the following times can be expected:

March is the perfect time to explore Perth – gorgeous weather and endless adventures await. These are some of my personal favorite experiences, and trust me, you’re going to love them too!

1. Skydive over Rottnest Island

Skydiving over Rottnest Island is an experience you’ll never forget – trust me, I still get chills thinking about that heart-racing moment of pushing myself out of the plane at 15,000 feet. The adrenaline rush is unreal, and the view? Absolutely breathtaking! Free-falling over turquoise waters and white sandy beaches makes this one of the most spectacular skydives in Australia.

If you’re making a day of it, be sure to book your ferry tickets in advance – they sell out quickly, especially in peak season. 2. See Koalas

Koalas might not be native to WA, but they’re an Aussie icon, and Yanchep National Park is the best place to see them near Perth. Strolling through the eucalyptus trees, spotting these sleepy cuties nestled in the branches, is such a peaceful experience. It’s a great way to slow down and connect with nature, and since it’s just a short drive from the city, it makes for an easy day trip. 3. Visit the Pinnacles at Sunset

If you’ve never been stargazing away from city lights, you’re seriously missing out. Western Australia has some of the darkest skies in the world, making it an incredible place to see the stars in all their glory. Now, imagine that combined with watching the sun dip below the horizon in Pinnacles Desert – golden light casting long shadows over the eerie limestone formations. It’s pure magic.

Hamelin Bay is an absolute gem, about 3.5 hours south of Perth, and home to one of my favourite wildlife encounters in WA and it’s free! As you walk along the shore, you’ll see huge stingrays gliding effortlessly through the shallows, sometimes just metres away. They’re completely wild but incredibly calm, making this an unforgettable experience. It’s one of those moments that stays with you long after you’ve left. 5. Explore Margaret River Wine Region

Margaret River is hands-down one of my favorite day trips from Perth. I still remember the first time I went – one sip of a Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay and I finally understood why people rave about this region’s wine. There’s something special about spending the day here, hopping between world-class wineries, eating delicious local produce and wandering through the vineyards with a glass in hand.
