In September the city is warming up as it comes out of its winter hibernation, making it perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing. The wildflowers start to bloom and the city is bustling with events and festivals, offering a wide range of entertainment options.

As someone who has lived in Perth for many years, trust me when I say September is a great month to visit! It’s the first month of spring so the weather is warming up, but it’s still cool enough to get out and about exploring. Here’s what you can expect from the weather in Perth during September:

Average Temperature In Perth In September

The average daytime temperature in Perth during September is around 19°C (66°F). This makes it a great time to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and exploring the city. 

The temperature can drop to a cool 10°C (50°F) at night, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket or wear layers.

Average Rainfall In Perth During September

May to September are the wetter months in Perth, but in September rains are easing. September has an average rainfall of around 50mm (2 inches). 

The average September day has a 19% chance of rain – this means you’re unlikely to experience any heavy rain during your visit. However, it’s still a good idea to bring a raincoat or umbrella just in case.

What Time Is Sunrise And Sunset In Perth In September?

In September, the days are becoming longer – there are around 8 hours of sunlight per day in Perth in September. Sunrise and sunset times vary slightly through the month but the following times can be expected:

23rd – 30th September – Claremont Showgrounds

The Perth Royal Show is a highly anticipated annual event that draws in huge crowds from all over Western Australia. This year, the show will be held from September 23rd to September 30th at the Claremont Showgrounds. The Perth Royal Show is a celebration of agriculture, entertainment, and education, and it is a fantastic opportunity for families to spend a fun day out together.

The show features a wide range of activities, including animal shows, live music performances, carnival rides and games, exhibitions, and much more. Visitors can also indulge in delicious food and drinks from various vendors throughout the showgrounds. 2nd September – Pirate Life Perth

2nd September – RAC Arena

Australia’s biggest sneaker, streetwear and culture convention, SNEAKERLAND,  returns to Perth this September. There’ll be thousands of limited edition items, local brands, music, entertainment, food and more. 

Culture Club

5th September – RAC Arena

The iconic Culture Club are bringing their Greatest Hits tour to Perth this September as they celebrate 40 years of music. 

LIGHT IT UP

6th September – RAC Arena

Wiz khalifa, Rae Sremmurd, Hooligan Hef, Young Lipz and DJ Beast Mode will be hittikng RAC arena this September for LIGHT IT UP festival. 

Cirque Du Soleil’s CRYSTAL

15th – 24th September – RAC Arena

Combining circus arts and ice skating, Cirque Du Soleil’s CRYSTAL heads into uncharted territory! The story follows the lead character on a journey of self-discovery accompanied by colourful visual projections and a score that blends popular music with the classic sounds of Cirque Du Soleil. 

Urban Cocktail Trail

16th & 23rd September – Fremantle

As a Perth local, I’ve discovered some of the best activities that you can enjoy during this time of the year. Some of these are must-do activities on any trip to Perth and others are more seasonal. Here are some of my top recommendations:

Perth Royal Show

If you’re looking for a fun and exciting event to attend in September, the Perth Royal Show is a must! This annual event is held at the Claremont Showgrounds and features a wide range of activities and attractions for people of all ages. You can enjoy carnival rides and games, watch animal shows, sample delicious food, and much more. Don’t forget to check out the fireworks display at night!

Visit The Beaches

In September the weather is starting to warm up so it’s a great time to visit the beaches in Perth! You can enjoy swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkelling, and surfing at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

Some of my favourite local beaches include Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough Beach, and Trigg Beach.

See the Wildflowers

Perth is known for its stunning wildflowers, and September is the best time to see them in full bloom!

You can drive out to one of the pristine national parks or visit one of the many parks in the city to see these beautiful flowers up close. Some of the best places to see wildflowers in Perth include Walyunga National Park, John Forrest National Park, Kings Park, Araluen Botanic Park, and Bold Park.

Go Whale Watching

September is also the perfect time to go whale watching in Perth. You can take a tour from Hillarys Boat Harbour or Fremantle to see these impressive animals up close. Rottnest Island also has some great whale-watching spots which include West End, Cape Vlamingh, and Perth Canyon Marine Park off the coast of Rottnest. You’ll get the chance to see humpback whales, southern right whales, or even blue whales. Make sure to bring your camera for some amazing photo opportunities.

Enjoy A Rooftop Cocktail

Is there anything better than sitting back, relaxing and taking in a spectacular view while enjoying a hand-crafted cocktail? I don’t think so! The weather starts warming up in September making it a fantastic time to explore Perth’s rooftops!

If you want a unique and unforgettable experience close to Perth, I highly recommend visiting the Jurien Bay Sea Lions. You can take a tour to see these playful cuties up close and even swim with them if you’re feeling adventurous. 

Swan Valley Wine Tasting

Perth has a world-renowned wine region right on its doorstep – the Swan Valley. It’s home to over 40 wineries, and no visit to Perth is complete without a visit to the region to sample some of the sparkling wines, Verdelho, Chenin Blanc and Shiraz the region is famous for. 

Trigg Beach Coastal Walk

Spend a lazy Sunday morning like a Perth local by heading to Trigg Beach for brunch and a coastal walk.

Start your morning by grabbing breakfast with a view at Island Market or Canteen. Grab your coffee and take a stroll along the coastal pathway. Feel the sun on your skin and take in the beautiful views of the Indian Ocean – seriously the best start to the day!

Just be aware that parking fills up quick on weekend mornings so plan ahead. 

Pinnacles Desert stargazing tour

Located just 2.5 hours north of Perth is a landscape like no other – The Pinnacles Desert. In Nambung National Park you’ll find hundreds of ancient limestone structures jutting out of the sandy desert, creating an eerie, otherworldly landscape.  

The best way to experience the Pinnacles is by taking a stargazing tour. The Pinnacles Desert Sunset Stargazing Tour conveniently departs from Perth. Guests will be able to sandboard the massive dunes in Lancelin before stopping at some pristine lookout points on the way. 

Once you arrive at the Pinnacles, you’ll witness a spectacular sunset over this unique landscape and enjoy a picnic dinner under the stars before stargazing in the desert. With no light pollution, you’ll see the Milky Way in all its incredible glory!

Swan River Cruise

The Swan River winds its way through the heart of Perth, so taking a Swan River cruise will give you a unique perspective on this beautiful city. You’ll catch breathtaking views of the Perth CBD skyline, Kings Park and the Swan Valley countryside. 

The Swan Valley Gourmet Wine Cruise is the most popular choice. Fremantle Markets

If you’re a visitor to Perth you absolutely have to check out the Fremantle Markets. As the name suggests, they’re located in the historic port city of Fremantle, which is just a 30-minute drive from Perth. 

You’ll find over 150 stalls offering almost anything you can think of! From the classics like fresh produce, and handmade gifts to souvenirs, bath and body products, toys and more! There’s also some seriously delicious food on offer too, so don’t eat lunch before you go! There’s live entertainment and a vibrant atmosphere so it’s a fantastic activity for the whole family. 

Visit Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is a must-do on any trip to Perth! It’s located just a short ferry trip from Perth and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and landscapes in all of Western Australia! 

You can hire a bike and ride the trails around the island, swim and snorkel the pristine beaches, sit back and enjoy the view with a cocktail in hand at Bayside Bar and take that iconic quokka selfie! There’s something on Rottnest for everyone. 

Plus, from September to November humpback whales migrate past the Rottnest coastline, making it an exceptional time to visit!
